Winter Skin: Tips & Tricks

Everyone deals with winter and winter skin differently. And it's true that winters in Cape Town and Johannesburg are completely different! We have a very special guest post today from the ever lovely Gail Dowding. We love Gail here at Glamore Cosmetics and today, she is sharing with you how she keeps her skin hydrated in the Johannesburg's winter!

When I think of winter, it immediately conjures up images of cold temperatures and dry skin.  It sends shivers up my spine.  I can quite honestly say that winter is my least favourite season of all.

Living in Johannesburg for many years brought with it many changes in my life, one of which was the way I looked after my skin.  I found that during the winter months, my skin became extra dry, itchy and sometimes even painful.  Enter Gael and Glamore Cosmetics!  She introduced me to Hean and AA cosmetics.  And that, in a nutshell, was the beginning of the end of my winter skin blues.  Together we worked out the perfect skincare regime for me.

I usually have the classic normal skin with the dry cheeks and oilier T-panel. However during the winter months, my skin is generally dry all over and sensitive. I would like to share with you the steps that I take during winter to keep my skin looking fresh and well cared for.  The differences and changes that AA Cosmetics has brought to my skin is phenomenal! To the point the people cannot believe that I have three grown up children and I am often mistaken as being younger than my two younger sisters!

So what do I do to keep my skin smooth, supple and truly pampered during winter?  Well it’s really simple!  Besides the usual eating a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water, I always ensure that I never go to sleep with make-up on.  I use a miceller water to take of my make-up. I find that it is easy to use and makes quick work of taking off everything.  I wash my face twice a day.  I started off using AA Blue Algae gel wash but recently I has swapped out to AA Colour Detox Smoothing face wash.  I found this one amazing.  It’s soft, foaming properties ensure clean, clear skin.

Every second day I use a buffing sponge with my face wash.  I feel that exfoliation is definitely the key to smooth skin.  Getting rid of dead, dry skin and promoting new cell growth definitely has helped my skin. The great part about using the AA face cleansing range, is that your skin doesn’t feel dry and tight after using it. I always pat my skin dry with a soft, fluffy towel. I use AA Colour Detox Skin Toning Face Mask with pink clay twice a week, at night, after I have washed my skin.  I find this mask works wonderfully, giving a deep, penetrating cleanse, brightening my skin making it look younger.

After cleansing and drying my skin, I normally wait a few minutes before applying any creams.  I find that this helps the absorption. I apply AA Skin Boost with Hyaluronic Acid twice a day.  It's super concentrated, so you only need a very little bit.  The results are almost instantaneous.  You can immediately feel your skin getting nourished and cared for.  At night I use the AA Golden Ceremides eye cream around the sensitive skin of my eyes. This helps keep those crows feet and other wrinkles that give away your age at bay. For moisturisation, I use AA Skin Boost Day and Night Cream with Hyaluronic Acid. It is light and easily absorbed. A little truly goes a long way!

So that is that!  A quick and easy routine that keeps my skin soft, supple, moisturized and looking its absolute best.
